This is probably not something someone with an untrained ear would pick up on, but once I heard it, I couldn’t unhear it. This new quartz metronome has an even interval and sounds (volume and tone) like the pendulum metronomes. The light is not an issue for me as I am too busy looking at the music to spare a glance at the metronome. It is very simple to use, which is definitely an issue for me. Wittner metronomes are top notch! The tak sound that comes out of this metronome is very musical, and authoritative. I agree with many others, a beep sound on digital metronomes is a bad choice for musical accompaniment, the TAK sound from this and other Wittners is much better. It’s clear, percussive, and not a distinct pitch. The downside to this model MT-50 is no volume control, and this metronome is LOUD. If you play a quiet instrument, you will prefer the MT-60, which includes volume control and other features, but has the same tak sound.

Excellent. Good clear sound. I don’t like loud sounds, so other’s criticisms on this score don’t make sense to me. If it were quieter, I wouldn’t be able to hear it properly while I play. The numerals on the face are quite small, so that could be a problem for some. Sometimes it is for me. It’s plastic but has a nice sturdy feel.

This has a really loud and obnoxious sound and there is no volume control. So if you get it I suggest you set it good few feet away from yourself so that the volume doesn’t distract you. The ear piece is useless to me because it is even louder than the speaker and feels like it’s damaging my hearing. It is still a nice, simple, compact, metronome that has not had any mechanical issues in the few months that I’ve had it.

Way better than any other metronome we have bought and even better than using an app. I think it keeps better time and all ages can use it. The earpiece is helpful for when you want to a get a beat in your head before walking out on stage to perform.

Small, sturdy easy to use. Loud “click” or just the flashing red light and easily adjustable tempo. You could pay more for a metronome but why spend extra when this unit will do just what you need.

Great product, exactly what I wanted. The sound is pleasant, much better for me than the digital beeping that I find very annoying with other metronomes. This one is quite loud, a problem easily solved with a piece of tape over the speaker. Loud could be a good thing, in the right circumstance, but I just wish it had volume control.

i got this b/c my other metronome wasn’t loud enough. this one is fantastic! I’m loving how easy it is to tell exactly what tempo you are on. my other one was hard to read exactly which #. couldn’t improve on this one. love it!

As a singer, I hate metronomes that have an electronic beep or anything that sounds like a pitch. If you’re singing a piece in C Major, and your metronome is beeping at something resembling a C-sharp, it’s disconcerting and interferes with your sense of pitch. This metronome is perfect. It has a crisp, loud, wood-block-type sound, but the sound is complex enough that it’s not on an easily discernable pitch. Plus, it’s very easy to use (just turn the dial — that’s it!) and it is durable. I have squashed mine in my bag many times, left it in a hot car, etc. It’s still doing great!

Small enough to fit in my pocket or purse, and to perch on the side of a piano. Loud enough to hear the beats. The pulsing light that indicates the beat is practically invisible unless you’re looking directly at it, and I REALLY prefer to look at the music when I’m playing, so that part is practically useless to me. Nevertheless, it’s a valuable tool for someone (like me) who gets so involved in the music that I inevitably speed up rather than keep the beat steady. I considered buying a digital one for the smaller size, but prefer the control of turning the dial. If it’s turned on and you turn the dial, you can hear the beat as it changes; that way if you’e not quite sure what speed you want, you can fiddle around until you find it. Not true in some digital metronomes.

What’s more, this metronome has become “it” for me. It’s simple to operate (just a dial – that’s all!) and it’s super-rugged. I’ve dropped mine on sidewalks, down several stair steps, I’ve sat on it…. but the case is such heavy, hard plastic, there’s been no breaking it. (Don’t throw yours down stairs – I’m just saying…) It’s LOUD. Like metronomes of 30 years ago, the old Franz German-made masterpieces that sounded like a hammer banging on a piece of wood (that’s what the Franz metronomes did!). This metronome (size of cigarette pack) duplicates the sound of the old Franz boxes almost exactly. You can hear this thing all over my house.
My 2 cents about loudness: when you’re using a metronome, in my opinion, you want to HEAR the thing, over your instrument. You give the majority of your listening to the metronome – not to what you’re playing. Otherwise, you drift. If you can “erase” the beat of the MT50, by playing exactly on the beat, you’re a timing ace.
The little “tweet-tweet” metronomes aren’t very good for serious time development. And when you buy a “tuner-metronome-effects pedal-pick holder” combination, you get the worst of all worlds. When I bought this Wittner MT50, that was it. Fast tempo selection, strong clack, unbelievable battery life, rugged as an oak log. Fits just about anywhere, and it’s inexpensive! I’m very happy with this purchase, and if I lose it, I will absolutely buy another just like it.
My only gripe is that I wish the headphone plug were stereo. It’s annoying to me when I can hear the beat in only one ear. Maybe I’m strange.
